The walls of my studio are filled with a variety of quotations that are meaningful to me. One of my favorites is from comedian/actor Danny Kaye: “Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint on it you can.” I love the exuberance expressed in that quote; and it is with that same exuberance I work my craft of art. Aside from a less than stellar 7th grade art class, and a drawing class at SMU, I have never really studied art. I received a B.A. from Texas Tech, majoring in Spanish and minoring in French before I realized that art was and is my main love. I am, however, a student of art, both as an admirer and collector. Living in the Middle East, doing mission work in Africa and touring European countries opened my mind and eyes to diverse artistic expressions. I have had an obsession with color all of my life, which is clearly seen in my projects. Can one ever outgrow the thrill of opening a brand new, 64-count box of crayons? What does the future hold for those markings, both inside and outside the lines? That same wonderment I find when starting each new piece. I never know what the final result will be, and consequently, no two works of art are the same. My work has become my passion and expresses both the serious and the whimsical side of me. Art runs through my blood, and that blood is in all shades of red! I have found great satisfaction in raising money with my donated works for a number of organizations, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Vanderbilt Cancer Center, Cattle Baron’s Ball and Animal Rescue of Texas. I shall continue to donate my work to causes I want to support. Being empty-nesters, my husband and I live in Dallas, Texas with our four loveable dogs and one very temperamental feline. |
